Aston Martin DB5 er ikke hver dag. Spesielt ikke når det er tre av dem. Spesielt ikke når de heter Vantage til etternavn.

Det er litt av en samling Nicholas Mee & Co. legger ut for salg nå. Tre Aston Martin DB5 fra midten av 60-årene.

Når jeg sier DB5 betyr det i utgangspunktet sjeldne biler. Litt over 1000 ble produsert.

Når jeg sier DB5 Vantage blir de enda mer sjeldne. Det ser ut som det ble bygget 66 slike, derav 60 coupéer.

Med andre ord de åpne, som det er en av i denne samlingen, er enda mer sjelden: 5 slike ble bygget.

Og derved har du oppdaget at den ene stasjonsvognen som er med er enestående.

Han som selger, har bygget opp denne samlingen over de siste 12 årene. Alle bilene har vært restaurert i perioden, de selges ‘som nye’ og hver bil har omfangsrike dokumentasjon og originalitets-bevis.

DB5 er jo den berømte av James Bond-bilene, men Vantage-navnet er mye eldre. Det ble første gang brukt på DB2 på tidlig femti-tall.

I DB5 sammenheng betyr Vantage at man legger på 3 Webere i stedet for originalens 3 SU-forgassere, og endrer profilene på kammen. Dermed får man 325 hk i stedet for de opprinnelige 282 – og en litt mer temperamentsfull oppførsel.

Karosseriet ble designet i Milano, av Touring, og bygget opp i England på Superleggera-basis.

Mer enn 10 % av den samlede DB5-produksjonen var åpne, men merkelig nok begynte de ikke å bruke Volante-navnet før helt mot slutten av serien.

Stasjonsvognen, eller Shooting Brake som den kalles, er egentlig bare et stunt fra Aston Martin-sjefen på den tiden, David Brown. (Hvorfor trodde du modellene heter DB?).

Han var en ivrig jeger med ivrige jaktbikkjer og fikk karosserimaker Harold Radford (opprinnelig Bentley, deretter Mini) til å mekke en bil med enormt bagasjerom til seg selv.

Mekke stemmer kanskje ikke helt. Håndbygget i aluminium.

Noen andre kunder fikk se den, og fikk Radford til å gjenta øvelsen, blant annet Cyril Williams i Wolverhampton. Egentlig en Aston Martin forhandler.

Alle Shooting Brake var opprinnelig coupéer. Men bare Williams sin, den som nå skal selges, var Vantageisert.

De tre bilene skal opptre på en concours på plenen til the Honourable Artillery Company i London tre dager fra i dag.

Fire millioner pund er prislappen. Kanskje Mee får det. En ‘vanlig’ Shooting Brake gikk for 1,5 millioner pund for et par år siden.
